Short battery life – causes

Every mobile phone owner knows that the cell phones that were in circulation until a few years ago had considerably longer battery life than modern samartphones. The reasons for this phenomenon lie mainly in the development of mobile phones. The changes that have been made over the years in the manufacture of mobile phones begin with the display: the first mobile phones used tiny pixelated monochrome variants that were not much larger than a quartz watch. The displays of modern mobile phones, on the other hand, are high-resolution and are smaller in size, reminiscent of small plasma televisions. However, this further development resulted in an increased demand for electricity.
In addition, mobile phones are now equipped with numerous additional background services, such as GPS receivers, weather forecasts and various mail services. The less background information there is, the longer the battery lasts.
The computing power of the modern smart pone is also correspondingly high today; processors with clock rates of one gigahertz are used in modern devices. This also costs huge amounts of energy. Last but not least, however, the type of data transmission is also decisive for the mobile phone’s power requirements: although it works much faster in the UMTS/LTE network than in the GSM network, it also consumes more energy. This phenomenon is quite known to almost every mobile phone owner: The smartphone batteries have just been charged – and a short time later the display shows that recharging is necessary. Here every annoyed owner of a smartphone asks himself the question: What are the reasons for the rapid discharge of the mobile phone?
